Where Krishna Met Jambavan
Near Ranavav town, beside the Saurashtra Cement works off NH-8E, a modest temple entrance leads down steep steps into one of Saurashtra’s most atmospheric pilgrimage sites. The moment you descend, the temperature drops, the air turns damp-cool, and the only sounds are dripping water and soft chanting.
The Syamantaka Legend
Tradition holds Jambavan and Lord Krishna fought here for 28 days over the Syamantaka jewel, until Jambavan recognised Krishna as his beloved Lord Rama.
Jambavati’s Marriage
On surrendering the gem, Jambavan offered his daughter Jambavati in marriage to Krishna - the spot is shown inside the cave.
50+ Natural Shivlings
Water dripping from the cave roof falls over naturally formed sand shivlings - devotees count more than fifty.
The Two Tunnels
Local lore speaks of two tunnels leading from the cave - one toward Dwarka, the other toward Junagadh.

Reaching Ranavav
By Road
~17 km from Porbandar
Drive toward Ranavav on the Rajkot-Porbandar highway; the cave road leads past the cement factory. A perfect en-route stop between Dwarka and Somnath.
By Train
Porbandar Station, then cab
Autos and taxis cover the Ranavav stretch easily.
By Air
Porbandar Airport ~12–15 km
Hire a taxi directly to Ranavav.
Before You Go
Do’s & Don’ts
Wear grippy footwear - steps are steep and floors can be wet.
Hold hands with children and elders on the single-file descent.
Weekday mornings are the most peaceful for a quiet walk inside.
Avoid Mondays and Shravan days if you dislike heavy darshan crowds.
